Monterey.edu

In 1994, California State University, Monterey Bay, chose the domain MONTEREY.EDU for its campus, but in August 2000, we switched to CSUMB.EDU.

Our decision was influenced on many factors, including our physical location in the cities of Seaside and Marina, and a lack of brand management (i.e. who owns the word Monterey?). With the acronym CSUMB, we had a chance to define ourselves independently.

But we have always appreciated the various educational institutes that actually reside in Monterey and around the Monterey Bay. Therefore, we have preserved the domain MONTEREY.EDU as a celebration of educational excellence along the Central Coast of California.
